Alaska is one of those “must-see-before you-die” destinations. Whether you’re considering a cruise or land package (or a combination of the two!) there is truly something for everyone in this magnificent land. And you don’t need a passport to get there if you’re a US citizen.   The landscape, the wildlife, the people…it feels like another world and it is awe-inspiring.

If you live in a place with hot summers, a getaway to the cool blue north may be just the ticket!

Here are some photos from a summer 2012 trip out of  Sitka. We love the intimacy of small ship cruising, but there are plenty of large cruise ships plying these waters as well. For the adventurous–you can take a seaplane ride, hike, ATV, hunt, fish….the possibilities are endless. Just don’t miss it–you need to go at least once!

Alaskan Dream Cruises is uniquely positioned to offer overnight cruises aboard these yacht-like vessels. Their shallow draft and nimble maneuverability make it possible to offer up-close glacier viewing and to seek out the best opportunities to mingle with and photograph wildlife. The food is wonderful, featuring local produce, meat, fish–this is NOT “camping” food–it’s wonderful. We can’t promise you won’t gain a few pounds, but we can promise it will be worth it.

The hatchery in Kake is a place you will NOT see on most cruise ships and the wildlife is incredible.

This is the kind of wilderness that is increasingly rare outside of Alaska. This itinerary combines renowned natural wonders with places off the beaten track from Sitka to make every adventure complete.

The food is incredible—there are even freshly baked cookies every afternoon! (And they tell bedtime stories about the real Alaskans, too.) The intimate atmosphere fosters strong bonds and friendships, many of which endure and bring you back again and again.
